News Release: We-Care.com To Fund Youth Camp For Survivors Of Tragedy

2015-01-14

For Immediate Release.

New York, NY — In 2013, 321 American firefighter, law enforcement and military lives were lost in the line of duty.

This loss of life is staggering, sad and irreversible, but is something we are reminded of each day when we turn on the news. We aren’t reminded, however, of what becomes of these servicemen and women’s families and children once the funeral concludes.

But that is soon to change. We-Care.com – a leading provider of philanthropic technology – has partnered with Heroes Honor to fund a youth outreach camp aimed at the children who have lost a parent in the line of duty.

Heroes Honor is dedicated to honoring servicemen and women, but their Heroes Left Behind Camp is structured for those who must continue on after tragedy strikes. The three-day camp, to be held over Memorial Day weekend in 2015 at greater Los Angeles’ Lions Camp, is open to all youthful survivors who apply online at heroeshonor.org.

“Heroes Honor is extremely grateful for our partnership with We-Care,” said Jeff Williams, co-founder of Heroes Honor. “Because of them and their amazing followers, our first Heroes Left Behind Camp will be launching in just a few short months. Now children of fallen firefighters, military and law enforcement have a place to call their own and meet others who have suffered the loss of a parent in the line of duty. The support and activities are truly groundbreaking. It is our mission to create memories, lessons and lifelong relationships that foster a lifetime of success.”

The camp has the capacity for 30 children and an adult “buddy” to guide them emotionally in the process of grieving and healing throughout the camp. We-Care.com is fully funding the cost of all campers and their respective adult volunteers, including food, lodging and activities.

“These kids have gone through so much. To be able to give them this opportunity to build memories, make friends that they can relate to and just have a good time is a privilege for us,” said Gina Navani, Director of Operations for We-Care.com. “We’re so blown away that shopping online could offer something so special to these kids, but we’re so grateful that it can.”

The over one million users of We-Care.com receive the sweet perk of seeing a portion of the money they spend at almost any online merchant donated to the nonprofit of their choice at no extra cost to them, serving over 800 nonprofits.

We-Care.com allows its users to support charity while shopping, searching and being social. Join the We-Care.com Community online and support Heroes Honor with every online purchase.
