In the past 105 years that P.C. Richard & Son has been around, a lot has changed in the world around us, but the company has always remained true to its principles.
Peter Christian (P.C.) Richard was born in 1882 in Amsterdam, Holland. He came to America as a young man, where he earned a living and gained experience by delivering milk, learning the tinsmith trade, and performing repair jobs for his community. By the early 1900s, he had saved enough money to open a hardware store. In 1909, he officially opened his shop in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.
In 1909, the same year that the business opened, the Richard family gave birth to a baby boy named Alfred J. (A.J.) Richard. At just six years old, A.J. was already looking for ways to get involved in the business. By 1924, he decided to expand the hardware store’s inventory by including electric irons, which marked the beginning of their appliance business. By the 1930s, the store’s inventory increased even more to include toasters, ranges, washers, refrigerators, and radios. To ensure customers would always be satisfied, A.J. established the P.C. Richard & Son Service Department to service and repair what they sold.
Sadly, A.J. Richard passed away in 2004, but his legacy lives on. The company is now operated by fourth and fifth generation family members, who continue to honor P.C.’s traditions of honesty, integrity, and reliability.
Gregg Richard, a fourth generation family member, currently serves as President and CEO. His son, Scott Richard, is currently a merchant in the Buying Department. Other fourth generation family members who contribute to the business include Peter Richard III, Operations Manager and Bonni Richard-Rondinello, Human Resources Manager.
Everyone who works at P.C. Richard & Son is thoroughly trained at one of the three A.J. Richard Learning Centers. Whether it’s a salesperson, manager, delivery person, account representative, or even an installation specialist, each employee is trained to respect the customer and understand the company’s values.
P.C. Richard & Son’s central distribution center is located in Farmingdale, New York. The main property is 650,000 square feet, and they have an additional 350,000 square feet of space located across the street. Every day, they deliver about 100 truckloads of merchandise, which contains about 3,000 to 5,000 products each!
In recent years, a bunch of brick-and-mortar stores have been opening their doors during Thanksgiving in order to reel in some extra money. P.C. Richard & Son knows that it would be a successful day for sales, but they feel that it is disrespectful to their employees. They are very thankful for the police officers, firefighters, doctors, nurses, and other professionals who work on this day to keep our communities safe, but they feel it is distasteful to take employees away from their families just to get in some extra sales. They would rather take the loss than contradict their moral foundation.
P.C. Richard & Son’s Low Price Guarantee promises to meet or beat any advertised price that you can find anywhere else. If within within 30 days of your purchase from P.C. Richard & Son you should see a lower advertised price, they will gladly mail you a check for 100% of the difference.
