The Baal Dan Haiti Well Project

2013-07-22

In the month of February, We-Care.com paid special tribute to a small nonprofit that is making a pretty great impact. Baal Dan Charities (which means Donation to Children in Hindi) focuses on providing education, food, and supplies to vulnerable children including orphans and street children and was selected as February’s Cause of the Month. We-Care.com was excited to be a part of an expanding organization and the work being done to help deserving children have a better chance in this world. And We-Care.com users were excited too. Over 60,000 users joined us turning something as simple as shopping online, booking travel, or even filing taxes into a better life for impoverished children. At the end of the month, the campaign had generated 30,147.02 for Baal Dan Charities.

It’s been an incredible 6 years for this small charity. Since 2006, Baal Dan has been able to aid over 2,000 children. Now Baal Dan has their sites set on something even bigger. Beginning in 2013, Baal Dan is looking to expand globally, impacting children in Asia, Africa, North America and South America by supporting a network of grassroots organizations. With a proven track record, and ambitious goals, We-Care.com was excited to feature the organization and send a total of over $30,000 to the organization in February of 2013. To continue the story we’re bringing you the stories of impact these donations have enabled, straight from the source, as they happen.

The first project allocates $10,000 to support the construction and drilling of a community well in Haiti. So many communities in Haiti are in desperate need of new wells or well repairs, and many more communities have existing wells that are over-capacity. The need is real, and in partnership with Food For The Poor, and Mercy & Sharing Village, Baal Dan will be able to complete a new community well to provide clean water for the surrounding community. This new well will serve approximately 1,000 people per day (150 families). The drilling began May 30, 2013 and is scheduled for completion on August 1, 2013. As the project develops, we’ll bring you stories of the construction, the community, and the lives effected.

UPDATE

In June, the well was completed and the members of this Hatian community now have access to clean water thanks to We-Care.com and Baal Dan!
