The Khusi Hona Orphan Project is an organization with the goal to help raise funds for and build awareness about orphans across the nation of India. The literal meaning of the Hindi word खुशी होना “khuśī honā” means feel happy, “The Feel Happy Orphan Project”. Khusi Hona was founded by the organization’s director, Matthew van Rooyen in 2012.
Khusi Hona supports existing orphanages and children’s homes across the nation of India. The goal of Khusi Hona is to help support homes that help break children from the cycle of poverty into which they were born and treat them with love, dignity and respect.
Khusi Hona’s secondary objective is to educate and inform Western cultures of the staggering orphan statistics and challenges in India they often don’t even know exists. Khusi Hona supporters/partners are usually involved personally at a grassroots level, such as crowd-funding mosquito nets, solar panels or medical treatments through the Weekly Feature platform.
This is taking a new approach to an old concept. Khusi Hona finds an immediate need in the field; posts that need in real time, and lets supporters contribute to that specific need through crowd funding which is posted to live donation meters on Khusi Hona’s website. From need to fulfillment, supporters are involved. This is accomplished by sharing on social platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, to raise awareness and help generate the capital needed.
Once a Weekly Feature goal is accomplished, Khusi Hona immediately implements the funds and posts the results in real time through the website, blog, and social media accounts, using photos and videos to tell the story of impact from each Weekly Feature campaign. 100% of all donations made to the Khusi Hona Weekly Feature are used in the field, and the whole process is transparent form beginning to end.
Most of the donations made to Khusi Hona are made to the Weekly Feature Platform. Since 100% of those donations are used in the field, the organization needs other sources of revenue for operating costs, admin and marketing. Khusi Hona‘s partnership with We-Care.com has helped fill this need by generating an alternative line of revenue.
Every time a Khusi Hona donor, who is a We-Care.com user, spends online at a We-Care.com merchant, Khusi Hona can earn a donation. With over 2,700 We-Care.com merchants, the donation opportunities for Khusi Hona can really add up. We-Care.com merchants include everything from retail, travel, to financial and dating services, and seemingly everything in between.
